A couple months ago, I was lucky enough to win a $100 Etsy gift card from my fellow blogger, Kara from the Dressed Aesthetic, in honor of her 3 year blog-a-versary and, at first, I was sure it'd all go toward wedding related things like bouquets or a birdcage veil.
But then I was browsing Hearts and Found (as one does when bored and wanting to stare at pretty things to pass the time) and I started to feel as though my shiny new gift card would be better spent on a shiny new dress!

Everyone who knows me knows my love for a good full circle skirt/dress with a fluffy petticoat beneath it. In fact, I've worn petticoats for nearly everyday for as long as I can remember since I began wearing them about 3 years ago or so.
So when I shop online, I tend to scroll past dresses or skirts that aren't full enough to accommodate a petticoat. However, when I saw this Emma Lou dress on the Lindy Bop website when I was springing for the duckling skirt a few weeks back, I sort of broke all my rules.

It's been a BUSY couple of months behind the scenes here at In a Nutshell. I've been keeping a once a week posting cadence here just to help me juggle it all. Between our annual busy season (in the trade show world, March-May typically are extremely busy!), some looming division reorganizations taking place smack dab in the middle, and our ongoing wedding plans, I just knew my bandwidth would be pretty stretched thin.
As if that wasn't enough - I have BIG news to share today along with this ADORABLE new skirt from Lindy Bop. LB recently released a bird collection and I immediately fell for their Francine dress and Adalane skirt featuring the cutest family of ducks parading around the hem.

Well, since I've been doing what I do best and traveling every couple of weeks, you must have expected a "What's Sara Reading?" post at some point, right? Because, as usual, I beefed up my Kindle for the flights and devoured some really good books as I made my way to and from Vegas recently.
My favorite? What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum. I tend to buy 2 books before a trip - 1 intriguing general fiction book that I've had on my reading list and 1 YA book. I still find YA more creative, enjoyable, heart-wrenching, and all around the style of writing that can suck me in so when I am traveling, I usually snuggle right on into a good YA book.

I feel like a broken record in the sense that every time I post lately, I make some reference to the weather in New England and how Spring is on its way but like, can you blame me? I think New Englanders keep repeating "Spring is on its way!" with the hope that it actually is and that any day now, the sun will stick around longer than one day.
In reality, though, it has started to feel as though it's actually not...

Someday soon, Spring will show itself.
In true New England fashion, one day we'll be blessed with a warm-ish day of 40 or 50 degrees and we all get hopeful that maybe - just maybe - it's finally warming up for good. Then the next week, we get hit with 6 inches of snow and are all thrown off track again. Like the day I took these photos - it started to snow on me as I snapped away. A freak snow squall that took place while just down the road, still in my line of vision, it was sunny as can be. WELL, OKAY THEN, NEW ENGLAND!

Let's get ready to ruuuuuummmbbbllllleeeee! A lipstick rumble, that is!
As I continue to make plans for my wedding (AHHH! That STILL feels super weird to say!), one of the first things I decided to do was hunt down the perfect red lipstick for the day of. Back in May, CiCi Marie shared her experiences with red lipstick in anticipation of her wedding and it was her post that gave me the "oh duh!" moment. Would I need to look for a long lasting, kiss proof lipstick for my wedding? You betcha! No cheap drug store brand would work here!
So I started early and am proud to announce that by the time we entered March, I had my wedding lipstick picked out. I only had to try 3 total to find it but I figured it would still be fun to share which ones I tried and my thoughts on each! Cici Marie's post helped me get started so I hope that maybe mine will do the same for someone!
So without further ado, here are the 3 kiss proof, long lasting lipsticks that I put to the test to become my official wedding lipstick (with help from a very special guest you will all probably recognize)!

This is a fun post to write and share. It's fun because this story has its own story behind it! Before I dive into My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix, I want to share a funny tale around where I heard about the book and who suggested I read it. To do, let's time hop back to November 2017.

Valentine's Day kind of snuck up on me this year. You wouldn't know it since I've had nothing but love and Valentine's themed treats on this blog since February started, but it truly felt like it did!
I've been so focused on the wedding ever since the holidays wrapped up (currently debating which donut shop I should commit to for our wedding "cake" and it's now between two and it's SO HARD) that I forgot about my second favorite holiday! Oops!

According to an email from Cody, it wasn't even 9:30am and his container was emptying out at a rapid pace! He could not control or stop it!

Although this post is a bit delayed (the wedding took place in October), what better way to start off the month of luuuurrrrve than with my best friend's wedding?? I've been dying to share her day as well as the story behind my maid of honor dress (but kept putting off pulling on the dress again for photos) so the timing worked out pretty well as she just got her wedding photos back recently!

This adventure was a year overdue. Maybe longer! I've been dying to visit the Ice Castles in New Hampshire for years and last year, as Cody and I were getting to know our now good friends, Jen (from Dressing with Class) and her hubby, Dave, we totally aimed to go on a mini road trip up to Lincoln, NH to do so.
Did we make it there? Somehow, no. We were all so busy that by the time we got around to making a plan, it was too last minute and tickets were sold out on the days we were available. Because, yes, this is the kind of attraction that sells out quick!

Well it appears January has a plaid theme going so I'm going to just go along with it and say it was intended!
Interesting as well since I typically don't go for plaids. I'm just never drawn to them often! I do have a couple plaid shirts that I wear on weekends with jeans to stay warm but when it comes to my wardrobe, I often go for patterns and novelty prints.

I dove into The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid before my last trip of 2017 took place in late November (I know and it took me THIS long to post about it). I was heading back to Las Vegas (luckily for only 2 days) and was excited to devour this book on the plane right in - it's my favorite part of traveling: all the reading I get to do! I finished Evelyn Hugo on the flight to Vegas because I basically just ate it up.

Every January, I have a lot of fun looking back on the previous year and collecting my favorite posts for a Best Of spread. This year, I debated doing it the way I usually do with talking about my personal favorites or if I collect the top posts of the year based on views/engagement. In the end, I decided to try something new and instead of sharing MY favorites, I am sharing all of YOUR favorites!
It was very interesting to see the overlap. Looking at my favorites list and the list of my top posts of the year, only a small handful lined up. But hey, the people like what the people like. Who am I to judge my peanuts' taste in posts?
I am not! So without further ado, here is a roundup of In a Nutshell's top posts of 2017!
