I really loved this one with its scattering of poinsettias and its red border print. I knew it'd make a lovely skirt and a great addition to my holiday attire. While I have been trying to spend less money on clothes lately, I love supporting small businesses - especially ones run by fantastic women!

A Very Vintage Christmas (Button Button)

Holiday Glitz & Glamour with Zapaka
Cody and I have had New Orleans on our list of adventures for as long as I could remember. We initially planned it for Christmastime this year and then put the vacation on hold when we found out we were pregnant in August. When we lost the baby in October, I suggested we re-plan the trip to give us something to look forward to.
So we did it! We booked our trip for early December and I started building out our long weekend itinerary. I love making itineraries. I loved having something FUN to plan and think about to take my mind off my suddenly dark reality. As I did so, there was only one thing I wished I had to bring with me - something new and festive to photograph for the blog!'

Autumn Leaves (Miss Fortune UK)
Anyone else really off-kilter when it comes to the calendar? I am aware that it's the second week of November but I'm speaking about December events as if it's right around the corner. It may be because we had our annual Friendsgiving this past weekend and it made it feel as though Thanksgiving was already on our heels, but the last few months have been equally as all over the place in my head.

A Letter to My Lost Baby (Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month)
There is something very different I want to share today and it doesn't involve delicious cookies or a new outfit. It isn't an easy story to share but it is important to share it. My little peanuts, I want to talk about Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and help open up a very needed discussion for women everywhere. Did you know that 1 in 4 women will lose a baby during pregnancy, delivery, or infancy? Well, I am the 1 in 4.
I debated for weeks about whether or not I'd share my story on the blog at all and make it public but I recently joined a support group to navigate through this experience and we had a conversation about giving our losses a purpose and breaking down barriers around miscarriages in honor of the babies we lost. We talked about how we have all involuntarily become warriors for pregnancy and infant loss and how it has sort of become our mission to talk about our lost babies and hopefully bring this insanely common nightmare to the surface and show others that it is OKAY to talk about it. It is OKAY to feel things about it. It is OKAY to share your experiences. It is NOT something we have to hide. Because miscarriages (and infant loss) are way more common than you think and yet no one knows it because we are all made to feel as though we shouldn't talk about it. So when I saw that October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, I decided to share after all.

Pumpkin Donuts with Chocolate Espresso Ganache
Now that I started rocking some spoopy outfits, I am in full fall mode. If I am being honest, though, I was in fall mode weeks and weeks ago. What can I say? It makes me happy to wake up on chilly mornings and see the leaves starting to change.

Creamsicle (Hearts & Found)
Holy crap, it's September! Where did the summer go? Wow, that was a fast one! I figured this is the perfect time to share the second Hearts & Found dress I ordered for my birthday earlier this summer as it totally gives off some school teacher vibes with the gingham and pussy bow collar and we all know the kiddos (and their teachers) are back to school now!

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Mousse (Vegan)
Hold the phone - is this a recipe post? Why, yes it is! I promise I do still bake. I've just slacked off big time this year with the whole "sharing recipes on the blog" concept. In fact, it was MARCH when I last shared a muffin recipe. Yikes!
There was a time where I shared one or two recipes a MONTH on this blog. What happened? Oh man, who even knows anymore? Weekends get busy and I have less time to create yummy things for you, I suppose.

Oh, Caterina (Collectif)
There are only a few events in the year that I get excited about - Christmas is first and foremost, followed by the illusive Brimfield Show that comes around just 3 times a year, and, last but not least, Collectif's big end of season sales.
I mean, I am sure there are more to be added to that list but whenever I see Collectif announce the start of their 50% off EVERYTHING sale (which typically happens at the end of summer and end of winter), I get giddy with excitement.

What's Sara Reading? Supper Club by Lara Williams
If you feed a starving woman, what will she grow into?
That is the overarching theme of Supper Club by Lara Williams. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this novel recently in exchange for my thoughts on the book. It was an exciting opportunity, especially since I've been trying to keep up with sharing book reviews on this blog this past spring. Have I been successful in that? Maybe somewhat, kind of...

We All Scream For... (Custom Playsuit by Button Button)
...ICE CREAM!
Yeah, you're seeing things properly - I am an ice cream cone of delight and whimsy from head to toe! This incredible two-piece playsuit was created for me by the amazingly talented Miss Clara Button of Button, Button for my fifteen minutes of fame in the Darling Dames Pinup Pageant at this year's Viva East weekender in Boxborough, MA.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Viva East 2019)
WOW. Just WOW. I don't even know if this post will be coherent or will be anything other than me gushing over all the amazing ladies I got to meet last weekend at the Viva East Rockabilly Weekender 2019.

Mine Again (Bernie Dexter)
This dress used to be mine. Then it wasn't. And now it is again! Yep, this is another tale of a dress worn years ago when I was a size small then sold when it no longer fit. If you missed my earlier blog post about the importance of body positivity and how buying a dress in a larger size MEANS NOTHING WHATSOEVER, catch it here.
I snagged this on the Buy/Sell/Trade groups recently (even though I have not bought a single dress since April due to the whole buying-a-house thing we're doing) because it was one of my favorites, but also because it was my FIRST vintage repro dress.

Disconnected (Getaway House Boston)
Since March, Cody has been in boot camp to prepare to test for his black belt in Krav Maga. That meant that on top of going to class 2-3 times a week, he also went to a 3 hour boot camp every Friday night, coming home exhausted and drenched in sweat. He had 2 pre-tests this spring and then on June 1, he had his final official black belt test, which lasted over 4 hours and was the most physically and challenging afternoon he has ever conquered. It was challenging to watch as well! Especially the final hour when I knew he was having trouble with his muscles cramping up on him.

Spoonful of Sugar (Anthropologie)
Full disclosure: these photos are not recent! But it seems as though my spending ban has caught up to me and well, I just don't have anything left in queue to share! If all goes well, Cody and I close on our new house at the end of this month so as you can imagine, we're trying not to touch our wallets if we can avoid it for the next few weeks!

The Shift of Summer (My Bubbie's Shift Dress)
Growing up, I always wanted my parents' and grandparents' clothes. The problem was no one ever kept anything! I had a handful of some old band t-shirts from my dad's teenage years but my mother kept nearly nothing from her teenage years.
It is because of this that I struggle to get rid of clothes myself - what if my future daughter wants them? Well, let's hope she wants clothes styled like the 50s and 60s and not the 2010s because I don't dress to the time at all!

In My Happy Place (Happy Place Popup in Boston)
Now that it's getting warmer (though it is doing so very, very, VERY slowly), I can't wait to start taking more day trips and adventures with Cody and our friends. As you may recall from previous posts, we are always down to check out something funky with my girl, Jen, and her husband, Dave.
When I heard that Happy Place was coming to Boston this month, I immediately texted them to see if they'd want to check it out with me. If you've never heard of Happy Place, here's some more information on the fun pop up experience, according to their website.

What's Sara Reading? Forget About It
What are friends for if not buying dresses from each other?
When my boo, Anna, recently decided to sell some of her previously loved Bernie Dexter dresses, I knew she'd probably be getting rid of at least one or two that I am missing from my collection. Lo and behold, she shared her green gingham Kelly dress as one getting the boot and I decided to take it off her hands.
