Modern Pinup at the Bruins' Game

Guys and their sports, am I right?

Seems like most guys have their favorite. For Cody, it's hockey. He's a big Bruin's fan and also plays hockey with a bunch of guys (including his dad!) every Tuesday night. I love that he's become a brawny, broad-shouldered, hockey man since we first met, although the stink that emanates off his hockey gear every week leaves little to be desired...

After having a grand ol' time at a Bruin's game in December with his BFFL, Andrew, I asked (rather pitifully, might I add) why he never took me to a game. He laughed at first but when he realized I was serious, he got us a pair of tickets to go together. Sure I may not know much about hockey (are there 3 periods or 4 quarters? Or 2 halves? Seriously all these sports and their different times - it's too confusing!), but going to a game with my man? I am down!

Retro Recipe: Betty Crocker's Good Kid Cookies

Every so often, I like to break out one of my vintage cook books I've collected over the years and try out a retro recipe. I have had this one from a Betty Crocker Cook Book bookmarked for ages. Seeing the recipe and photo that went along with it always cracked me up.

Cookies in the shape of faces? Oh heck yeah!

Shipwrecked in WA with Kristina from Eccentric Owl!

Oh darn, I crashed my pirate ship again - but look! I found buried treasure down here! And who is this with me? Why it's Kristina from Eccentric Owl! How'd she get here?

What's Sara Reading? February Edition

Well, howdy! Welcome to this month's edition of "What's Sara Reading?"! What have my fellow bookworms been reading lately? Anything good? I always like to hear what's on my friends' reading list. I also like to share my reads with my friends!

Speaking of, that is probably my ONE caveat with having a Kindle now. I read good books and want to pass them on to my friends! I find myself telling friends about books they should read only to feel like an ass when I can't offer them my copy to read!

"Oh man, you gotta check this book out! It's so up your alley! Oh, can you borrow my copy? Gee, I'd let you borrow it but...I literally can't." Shrug.

THANKS A LOT, KINDLE!

I keep hearing there's a way you actually can lend out books digitally on a Kindle if your friends also have Amazon accounts. I really need to look into that. Maybe then I won't come off as such a jerk about the books I think my friends should read.

"You want to borrow my book? Well SURE! It's coming right at ya - digitally!"

So much better!

My Valentine's Day Outfit: LindyBop's Vanessa Dress!

I tried to get my iTunes to play a bunch of romantic songs for me to write this post to, but it didn't want to work with me. I'd get "Better Man" by James Morrison and then right after, "This is Gospel" by Panic! at the Disco. Sigh. Shuffle is never in my favor. And yes, I have quite the variety of music in my library.

Music aside, let's talk Valentine's Day. It's one of my favorite holidays - besides Christmas, of course. If Christmas is the ultimate excuse for giving everyone presents and goodies, Valentine's Day is the mecca of all things love and adoration. I'm a sucker. A big ol' sucker.

Chocolate Chip Donuts with Chocolate Raspberry Ganache Frosting

Confession time: I am a donut lover. I love donuts. I always have. They're my weakness. Particularly chocolate frosted, chocolate glazed, lemon filled, jelly filled...oh who am I kidding? I love them all. Except for a plain donut. Because why are you even eating a donut if its plain??

While I bend over backward for donuts, I have never made my own. On purpose, mind you. I always refused to buy a donut pan or donut maker because I feared that once I let myself start, I wouldn't be able to stop. I didn't want to even tip toe near that black hole.

Think Pink: The Distinguishably Demure Dress from ModCloth

This was the dress that almost wasn't.

I snagged it originally in a size 10 when it was included in ModCloth's recent 70% off sale, going by the size chart and choosing accordingly. I didn't question my choice or debate whether to size up or down. Nope! I was 100% confident. This pretty, pretty thing was all mine!

It finally arrived and I happily pulled it on a few days later to try it on. I was shocked to find it too big on me! Not only was it roomy in the waist and bust, it was extremely roomy in the shoulders. Clearly, it was another dress designed for a taller gal. Dang my short torso! Then again, some would argue (mostly Cody) that all of me is short. So....yeah.

Double Chocolate Caramel Chip Cookies

If November/December is for feasting, February is certainly for decadence. Sure,we spend most of winter stuffing our faces, but I'd say that there are two very distinct differences. November into December is holiday central - pies, casseroles, turkeys, stuffing, potatoes, etc. Essentially, a lot of comfort food. Then you recover and work hard on your New Year's resolutions in January (because let's be honest - who here is STILL going strong? Yeah, didn't think so, suckers). And then, it's February.
