The Case of the Time Traveling Skirt

This summer has had a bit of a theme with items of clothing finding their way back into my wardrobe and I am A-OK with that!

This skirt has an interesting story. I think deep down, I have always known I wanted to be a retro/vintage/pinup queen but never really knew what that meant or what to do with it even if I did know what it meant.

Does that even make sense?

Anyway, throughout my teenage and college years, little slivers of my vintage love came out and only now do I see them as little sneak peeks into my retro filled future. One being my prom dress, which I restyled and shared on this blog this past spring.

I also had a few skirts and dresses that I fell in love with and bought but never knew how to style or wear. I think of those items now, years after they have left my life, and my heart aches for them because if I knew then what I knew now, I would have ROCKED them better.

For example, I had two skirts that were of midi-length that I wore on my hips (hip-huggers were the style then - no high-waist anything in the late 90s/early 00s!) but struggled with them because they didn't look right (they were SO long on my short frame, they didn't LOOK right, they fell flat, what do I even wear with them!? The list went on and on...) and so I barely wore them confidently and, eventually, donated them or got rid of them.

I KNOW! IT MAKES ME SAD, TOO!

Needless to say, this skirt, an old one from Express (that store in the mall), was one of those skirts I mention above! I decided to look on eBay recently to see if anyone was selling one in my size and I was pleasantly surprised to find not just one but two under $20 in my size! In the two colorways I loved back when I was in college circa 2007.

I remember seeing this black version and its mint green counterpart back then and having a hard time choosing which one I wanted. The skirt was over $50 and was a splurge for me so I could only get one. My boyfriend at the time ended up buying it for me and I was giddy.

A little after college, I gave it away (hating how long it was on me then, which makes me laugh considering everything I wear these days are past my knee) but now I wish I had kept it! Luckily, eBay came to my rescue and now I have it (along with the mint green version I loved back then) back in my possession!

Oh if 2007 Sara could see me now!
