Roman Holiday Scallop Swing Dress from Unique Vintage

Guess what, guys!? MY BEST FRIEND IS ENGAGED!

After months of keeping it a secret (Jimmy has had everyone in on the surprise for weeks now), it is so exciting to see a ring on Red's finger. Yippee! I am so pumped for them.

After he proposed (in a movie theater, their favorite place to be!), we surprised her back at their apartment along with all their close friends and family with a movie theater themed engagement party and I wore this dress.

Speaking of this dress, I picked it up from the Unique Vintage tent at Viva a couple weeks ago and event though the zipper is a pain in my ass (real talk time: I think I'm over buying UV. This is the 3rd dress now that gives me the worst zipper trouble. Sorry, it just ruins it for me!), I love the way it fits and how it looks.

At first, I didn't know what to do with this dress. I don't typically buy solid colors. I don't think I realized it until I put this on and stared into my reflection, thinking, what on earth do I wear this with?

I went with some gold accessories (a vintage brooch and some gold flats) to let the awesomeness of this dress shine on its own. It almost seemed silly to add patterns to the mix.

The details in this dress are great - love me some cute short sleeves, but how killer is the neckline with its scalloped edges? And don't get me started on the fullness of the skirt. I do have a canvas underskirt on underneath but it can totally stand on its own without a petticoat of any kind and still have some oomph.

It just wasn't enough oomph for me - my best friend was about to get engaged, after all!

Needless to say, she was surprised. They had discussed getting married someday soon but she did not expect it to happen now! He surprised her with a slideshow movie of their childhood pics and pics together and she totally didn't expect us all to be back at their apartment waiting - with confetti, no less!

It was such a fun night and I am so appreciative that it was able to happen on a day when I was not traveling for work! Between all the work trips and trade shows, it was pure luck there was a day somewhere that worked!

Speaking of which, I am back on the road this weekend - back to Vegas, believe it or not! This time, it's for my company's conference, EMC World, which I've shared here before. This time, it's better because Cody is coming along. It's always better when we're together and I love having him there with me so I can join him at the end of each day. We always try to have a little fun together while we're out there and I am sure this year will be no different!

Congratulations, Red & Jimmy!
I can't wait to see what's in store! I am so excited to be a part of it all.
