Recently, I went on a search for the perfect vintage/retro style pair of jeans. They didn't have to actually be retro, but they had to feel retro.
Like most gals, jeans are my least favorite thing to shop for. I don't wear them often but I like to have at least 1 or 2 pairs on hand for weekends or for the rare occasions that just aren't suitable for my normal attire of a swing dress and petticoat. I know, right? What on earth would stop me from wearing a petti on a given day?
Anyway, I loved the look of vintage jeans - the high waist and skinny feel throughout. But it was challenging - often if the waist fits, I don't have enough room in the thighs. When the thighs fit, I end up with too much room in the waist. So the long and hard search began...
I just hate the process of jeans. I hate trying them on and I hate even looking at the price tags. UGH! This is why I live in dresses and skirts!!
Stores were beginning to be my enemy - they never had my size in stock and no one seemed to have the style I wanted without them looking way too much like a bad pair of mom jeans.
Let's save the mom jeans for when I'm an actual mom - k, thanks.
Then, my girl, Anna, mentioned stocking up on jeans at her local Levi store recenlty. Wait up, Levi's? The thought of wearing a pair of Levi's made me giggle. When I think of Levi's, I think of the momiest mom jeans you can imagine.
I think it's because my parents wore Levi's growing up and my generation really did not. The kids at my high school lived in American Eagle (barf) and Abercrombie and Fitch (double barf). Then there was me, never in jeans. So. Yeah.
I decided I had nothing to lose and followed Anna's lead. Levi stores aren't on every corner near me so I headed online. On the Levi's website, I was happy to see that I could filter by rise and style. I immediately hit "high rise" and "skinny." Then I prayed.
I looked through the options, groaning every time I spotted a "high rise" jean that just, well, wasn't high enough. Then I spotted the 721 High Rise Skinny. It was their highest waist I could find in my size and I received a 20% off coupon for subscribing to their email alerts.
I decided it couldn't hurt to try seeing as I was running out of options. So I went for it. I really liked that instead of the typical frustrating way the clothing industry sizes women's jeans (what the heck is 00, 0, 2, and so on?!), Levi's simply had them listed by waist measurement and length measurement.
THANK YOU! THAT'S SO MUCH EASIER!
I grabbed a pair in 29" for my 30" waist, knowing there was some stretch and they'd stretch out as I wore them, and 32" length.
Well, my friends, I am in love. I was shocked to find that they fit me PERFECTLY. The waist fits AND the thighs fit? It's a miracle. They are so very well made - in true Levi's fashion - and are pretty high waisted. In my opinion, they could STILL be a bit higher, but they'll do.
Do you struggle with finding jeans? What are your challenges?
These look awesome on you! My go-to jeans are the Karaoke Songstress ones from ModCloth, but I'd love to get another style of high-waisted jeans. What color are the ones you're wearing here? I might have to look into these more!

Thank you, lady! I have a pair of Karaoke Songstress shorts - I bet they make awesome jeans!! I never thought to check! I think I got these in "runoff" although I wanted "faded indigo" but it didn't have my size at the time!
DeleteLookin good!! I actually have a pair of Levi's high rise myself - love them!! They don't cut my circulation off at my gut & are super comfy! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, they're a perfect fit!! I had that with a pair of, can you believe it, Hollister jeans, but sadly they've stopped stocking those ones and they now have a hole on the inner thigh, pretty much unwearable outside the house!
ReplyDeleteI've just gone to search for these jeans and I'm VERY confused - the US site shows them at a reasonable $78 (in the "Shaded Indigo" colour) whereas the UK is £95 - about $140!! How does that work?! It seems to be the same in all the different colours, some are cheaper, but they're all around twice the price of their US counterpart :( Better get booking some flights over then!
Giiirrrrlll I don't get it either - jeans in Europe are so expensive! I know my gal, Anna, is in Germany and she often shops in store and they're so much pricier there than they are here. Crazy, right?
DeleteThese look amaaazing on you! Love how you've styled them too! I also find it hard to find jeans that fit right, I'm still on the hunt for that perfect pair <3

I am currently a non-jeans wearer. Actually I only started to wear trousers (pants) just over two years ago as I grew up as a skirts/dresses only person. I now wear trousers quite often in winter and find them warm, comfy and versatile. My daughter and best friend keep trying to persuade me to buy some jeans but I have something of a denim phobia. You look great in those Levis though and, not being a regular pants wearer like myself, you have given me inspiration to reconsider the subject.

Um, HELLO BABE. You look pretty dang good in jeans! Way better than I ever will. ;) But you have legs for daaayyys so that helps! I love that pair, too; it is SO FRUSTRATING to shop for jeans, but you scored! Someday, I will find the perfect high waisted pair, but for now... well... skirts it is!

Those jeans are so perfect on you!! I gave up on jeans a long time ago and have thus stuck to skirts and dresses, hahahaha. But gosh, you look incredible!
ReplyDeleteAw, my mom talked about levi's like they were the cat's denim pajamas when I was a kid so, I totally have the same perspective. These are gorgeous though! My go-to jeans were discontinued and I haven't found a replacement yet. It's a good thing dresses and skirts are my jam.

va-va-voom! YOU LOOK AMAZING! Im so happy to hear you found a pair of jeans that work on you - AND ordered them online!! My husband swears by Levis but whenever I think of wearing them I had the same though as you: Mom Jeans. But maybe after seeing you in these I will try them! I have been on a quest to find my favourite jeans this year, and although I've come close I haven't found "THE PAIR". I have a problem with finding jeans that are not way too long, because I am so short, capris are my full length pant!
ReplyDeleteThose jeans fit you perfectly! You look so fantastic. <3 The top is super cute!
