Cranberry Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

My dad makes a mean oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. In fact, he was always the "cookie guy" growing up. He'd often take the first day of school and last day of school off from work and we'd always come home to cookies waiting for us. Granted, they were frozen Mrs. Fields cookies but we LOVED them.

Whenever my high school A Capella Choir had a cabaret (which was held in the cafeteria for some reason), we all brought goodies and drinks for our audience to enjoy. Whenever this happened, the entire group requested my dad's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. He sort of became famous for them.

I typically don't opt for an oatmeal cookie (unless it has chocolate chips! I am not a raisin girl) but I still hold my father's cookies dear to my heart so it is probably why I decided to keep at least ONE oatmeal cookie in my cookie recipe arsenal. I basically took my dad's recipe (which was probably taken off a container of Quaker oats, to be honest) and kicked it up a notch - with dried cranberries!

Every time I see this recipe in my recipe binder (heck yeah I have a recipe binder!), I say out loud, "Oh yeeaaahhh!" because, for some reason, it doesn't see the light of day all too often. I figured it was time to break it out. With Thanksgiving a week away and Christmas right around the corner (you bet I had my Christmas playlist playing while baking these!), these oatmeal cookies full of chocolate chips and dried cranberries seem like the perfect fit!

These cookies are super simple to make and really are a no-fuss recipe. It's basically an "everyone in the pool" kind of recipe - which I am all for. I get impatient with complicated recipes. If it can be whipped up within an hour, I am a fan!

Cranberry Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups flour (sometimes I add a bit more if the first batch spreads out as they cook - you want a cookie that is a bit puffy)
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups Quaker oats
1 cup dried cranberries
All the chocolate chips you want!

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees/
  2. Cream the butter and sugars.
  3. Add egg and vanilla. Mix.
  4. Add baking soda, flour, and oats gradually. Mix.
  5. Add cranberries and chocolate chips. Combine until chips and cranberries are mixed throughout.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto un-greased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
